The ScanSnap S510M offers good quality high-resolution colour scanning while demanding less desk space than your MacBook. It’s extremely compact. Rather than occupying the same space as the paper it’s designed to scan, this sheet-feeding scann...

Bad Too expensive for casual users, no film scanner, no support for TWAIN...
Bottom line There’s much that’s good here, although the ScanSnap is not really appropriate for creative studios and too expensive for casual users. The target market of SoHo and business users must really want Acrobat 8 Professional, and for them it&rsquo...

If you want to turn your paper archives into searchable PDFs, it doesn’t get any easier than the Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M. At $495 it’s not cheap—but its bundled software alone is worth far more than the scanner itself.
Good Automatic two-sided scanning; fast; automatic OCR; handles small and oversize pages.
Bad Quick Menu feature doesnt work with Entourage; OCR software cant keep up with scanner; fairly expensive.
Bottom line If you want to turn your paper archives into searchable PDFs, it doesn’t get any easier than the Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M. At $495 it’s not cheap—but its bundled software alone is worth far more than the scanner itself.

There are some basic assumptions that we all make when it comes to scanners: Scanners are horrible; they take up lots of desk space; and they’re slow. Document feeder scanners are subject to paper jams, and really, people use them mostly for picture...
