18 MP CMOS sensor

Advanced creative features
Use your imagination to enhance your stills with a range of creative filters such as toy camera effect or soft focus. These filters can be applied to RAW and JPEG images giving you creative control after the shot has been taken. Basic+ allows you to apply a creative ambience, when shooting in the Basic modes, giving you creative control without extensive photographic knowledge.

Vari-angle 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View LCD
Perform detailed checks on images and video or shoot unique or awkward angles with a 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View LCD screen, which features an ultra-high 1,040,000 dots for increased clarity. Switch to Live View mode and use real-time visual feed to help capture the best angle.

Full HD movie recording
The EOS 60D combines exceptional still shooting with the ability to shoot Full HD (1080p) video. To satisfy your creativity the EOS 60D features full manual control and selectable frame rates. You can also shoot high speed 50/60fps movies at 720P for when the action is really fast. An HDMI connection allows High Definition playback of footage and images on any HDTV. With HDMI enabled TV sets playback can be controlled using the remote control.

DIGIC 4
Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor works with the CMOS sensor to deliver 14-bit image processing, for smooth gradations and natural looking colours. DIGIC 4 also powers advanced Noise Reduction when shooting at higher ISO speeds, plus split-second start-up times and near-instant image review after shooting.

High ISO for low light
When light levels fall, the EOS 60D offers an ISO range of up to 6400 – expandable to 12800 for those environments where using flash is undesirable.

iFCL metering system
A 63-zone dual layer metering sensor analyses Focus, Colour and Luminance information, providing accurate and consistent metering.

Quick Control screen
Accessible using a dedicated button it provides easy access to commonly used functions, ensuring that you are ready to take the shot as it happens.

Create a shooting system as unique as you are
The EOS 60D is compatible with Canon’s full range of EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites.

The Canon EOS 60D is Canon’s latest addition to their DSLR line and sits between the Digital Rebel T2i and EOS 7D in terms of both price and features. The 60D presumably is intended to eventually supersede the EOS 50D—though the 50D is still listed as...
Bottom line Canon certainly seems to have produced another winner in the EOS 60D. It’s a very useful update of the 50D, adding more pixels, HD video, a tilt and swivel LCD and lots of other small refinements. My only complaint is that I think I’d rather have had C...

Bad Some highlight clipping; photos taken in artificial light can have a brownish color cast, Redeye a problem, no removal tool available, 18 135 mm kit lens has strong barrel distortion and purple fringing (and I can't imagine that the 18 200 mm kit lens is any better), Sluggish contrast detect AF in live view mode, No continuous AF in movie mode, Histogram blocks a good portion of the live view, Pl...

Bottom line The new 60D represents something of a rethink on Canon's part, now more clearly positioned as a prosumer SLR camera that sits halfway between the cheaper, more consumer-focused 550D / Rebel T2i and the more expensive, semi-pro 7D. Current 50D owners l...

Good High resolution 18 Megapixel stills, Flexible HD movies with mic input and audio levels, Articulated screen with superb 3:2 panel, 5.3fps continuous shooting and fast AF.
Bad No continuous AF while filming video, Rocker control difficult to use, Limited options for in-camera RAW processing, Outclassed in traditional respects by D7000.
Bottom line There's two ways of looking at the EOS 60D. First is as Canon's new mid-range DSLR, in which case it sits perfectly between the existing EOS 550D / T2i and EOS 7D. It offers a number of benefits to differentiate itself from entry-level models without...

Good Excellent image quality up to ISO settings unthinkable just one camera generation ago, Extremely high detail and resolution at base ISO, good per-pixel sharpness, Very good low-light performance, with low noise levels and good retention of detail, Good ergonomics, well shaped and comfortable hand grip, Customizable user interface, In-camera raw conversion options and Creative Filters give easy...
Bad Slow AF in Live Mode reduces benefit of articulated screen for stills shooting, White balance often excessively orange under artificial light, Slight tendency to overexpose in contrasty conditions, Post-processing options oddly arranged (and don't provide access to the Ambience options), Plastic construction not as reassuring as its metal-bodied peers...
