The HAWK series is one of my favorite, and that's mainly because it sits towards the top of the chart when it comes to what you can do with a card. At the bottom of the stack you've got your reference card. From there we introduce an overclock and...
The HD 6870 is another great inclusion to the much loved HAWK series and you can see thanks to the extra effort that MSI has put into it that there's a fair chunk of performance on offer with the card quite often sitting between the higher end HD 69...

With the R6870 Hawk, MSI has added some extras and improved the performance of the basic 6870. It uses a custom ‘Propeller Blade’ cooler which MSI says can deliver 20 per cent more air to the card, along with voltage and power tweaks to allow for highe...
The MS R6870 Hawk’s price of around £150 is extremely reasonable for an upgrade that can cope with games in high detail and high resolutions and should satisfy anyone with a PC in need of a gaming boost. However, since it’s at the lower end of the rang...

MSI R6870 Hawk is an interesting overclocker solution. It works easily at 1050/4500 MHz, and I haven't even increased voltages. The cooler is very nice: quiet and very efficient. On the downside, the package is quite humble.

It is quite interesting to see that there is an extensive shift towards the more high-end and enthusiast products in the past year or so. It seems that next to good performance and features, the end-users like to tweak more and more as well. Well tha...
There's no way around it, the R6870 HAWK is a very impressive product. See, the reference R6870 all by itself is obviously already a great value product that offers good performance. MSI upped that up a notch by the (though petit) standard overclock. The H...

In October last year, AMD released its second-generation Radeon HD 6800 DirectX 11 architecture, codenamed Northern Islands. The time spent between HD 5000 and HD 6000 was used to refine and fine-tune its architecture to better suit the existing 40 nm...

New products may occasionally turn out to be no better than older ones as is the case with the VLIW4 and VLIW5 graphics architectures developed by AMD. The Radeon HD 6870 graphics card with its outdated architecture is actually quite competitive to the...
We have not learned anything particularly new from the fight between the MSI R6870 Hawk and the PowerColor HD6870 PCS+ as we saw the same results in our review of the ASUS HD 6870 DirectCU. We can again say that AMD’s old graphics architecture with VL...
